On Sunday September 2 2007, Regent Street will be celebrating its eighth annual festival which this year will be themed, ‘An Indian Summer’. Regent Street will be transformed into India for a day of spectacular free outdoor events showcasing India’s incredible variety, colour and creativity. Replacing cars on the traffic-free day will be elaborate decorations from artist Sumant Jayakrishnan, whose stage designs wowed Roundhouse audiences at ‘A Midsummer Night's Dream’ earlier this year. There’ll also be painted booths and stunning decorative designs from Delhi-based Xylem Papercraft, bringing further vibrancy to the street. Near the Goan beach area, complete with palm trees, there’ll be food stalls, restaurants and traditional Indian handicrafts (block printing, embroidery and beadwork). Children can take part in hands-on arts workshops and enjoy traditional string puppet performances by the Aakaar Puppet Company. The Regent Street Festival is part of Visit London’s Festival month, backed by the Mayor and Transport for London and many Regent Street stores will participate in the festivities and offer special promotions.
