The Department for Transport has given approval to a number of UK airports to remove the one-bag restriction on hand baggage. Changes will be phased in from January 7 2008 as new 3D scanners are rolled out. Restrictions will be lifted at many busy airports including Heathrow, London City, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stansted and Manchester but will remain for the time being at airports including Gatwick, Jersey, Newcastle and Newquay. Passengers are urged to check with their airline before travelling to avoid confusion whilst baggage allowances vary. Restrictions on the quantity of liquids allowed through airport security remain in place. Latest DfT info at www.dft.gov.uk
