A new airline, Bilga Air, has stepped forward to replace Air India flights between Birmingham and Amritsar in Northern India. Air India has announced it will pull the plug on the route at the end of October 2008 in order to protect its slots at Heathrow. Named after a famous historical village - significant to followers of Sikhism - Bilga Air's flights will be operated by Monarch. Flights launch on October 9 and, although its schedule will vary at different times of the year, flights will mainly operate on Sunday and Monday evenings from Birmingham. While some will have a technical stop for fuelling en-route, more than 90 per cent will operate non-stop. The aircraft cabin will be a mixed configuration of economy and a premium economy seats with prices from £575 return.
